D’après un porte-parole de la présidence américaine, Kevin Muñoz, qui a annoncé sur son compte Twitter la levée de cette exigence, les autorités sanitaires continueront “d’évaluer les besoins en fonction de la science et du contexte de circulation des variants”.

Avant l’arrivée de la variante omicron , les autorités sanitaires américaines avaient durci les procédures pour entrer dans le pays en décembre 2021.
Toute personne âgée de plus de deux ans embarquant sur un vol en provenance de l’étranger devait présenter un test négatif moins d’un jour avant le décollage, quel que soit son statut vaccinal.
Plusieurs autres pays, notamment en Europe, avaient déjà cessé d’exiger un test de pré-embarquement pour les voyageurs internationaux.
Suite à une décision de justice, le port obligatoire du masque dans les transports en commun, notamment dans les avions, a également été levé aux Etats-Unis en avril dernier.
Cependant, les États-Unis enregistrent actuellement plus de 100 000 nouveaux cas de covid par jour, un chiffre qui, selon les experts, est inférieur à la réalité. L’augmentation récente a été liée aux sous-variantes d’omicron.
