Le secrétaire adjoint aux affaires de l’hémisphère occidental, Brian Nicholls a donné une interview à Miami Herald. Au cours de cette interview, il a informé que le gouvernement américain travaille sur une résolution offrant des paramètres qui pourront sanctionner les gangs en Haïti.
Ces sanctions pourront même remonter aux mains cachées derrière les gangs, ceux qui financent et qui fournissent des munitions aux gangs. L’interdiction de voyager aux gangs et à leurs patrons figurent parmi les sanctions.
Cette résolution sera proposée au conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies pour ratification. Brian Nicholls a aussi informé que le contrôle est mis sur le trafic d’armes en provenance de son pays vers Haïti.
En ce qui concerne l’envoi de mission de paix à Haïti, le secrétaire adjoint a informé qu’aucune décision n’est déjà prise à ce sujet même si le conseil de sécurité est ouvert à cette éventualité.
